The demands that are placed on many of us can be difficult to handle. Tasks from work, family, and friends, to larger challenges caused by unseen events in our future can weigh heavily on our minds. More recently anxiety has become a struggle that affects millions in the United States. General anxiety disorder (GAD) affects 6.8 million adults or 3.1% of the U.S. population, yet only 43.2% are receiving treatment. GAD often co-occurs with other mental health diagnoses including major depressive disorder and women are twice as likely to be affected as men.

Signs of anxiety can often be mistaken or even minimized by many, as some less commonly known symptoms include fatigue, indecisiveness, perfectionism, stomach aches, avoidance, low frustration tolerance, and concentration issues. Long-term effects of stress and anxiety have been shown to have damaging effects on individuals. Long-term issues include increased blood pressure, all the way to major long-lasting effects like increased risk of heart disease and heart problems as well as lowered immune system making you more vulnerable to various illnesses.
